The primary goal of ecological productivity assessment is often to determine the effects of flow management on the availability of fish food organisms downstream of a dam. We quantify the availability of fish food organisms by analyzing the productivity and community composition of periphyton and benthic invertebrates. By considering all major physical factors known to influence the composition and production of periphyton and benthic invertebrates (light, substrate, velocity, and water temperature) in our statistical models and analyses, we more accurately predict impacts on fish food and can help implement targeted solutions to help you improve flow management.
